The Butterfly Trail is an ecological project that aims to connect the eastern hills of Bogotá via a scenic pedestrian corridor, stretching from the Patiño Ravine in the Usaquén district to the Fucha Ravine in the Usme district. The trail traverses the eastern hills within the Bosque Oriental de Bogotá (Eastern Forest of Bogotá) protected forest reserve, managed by the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR). The trail connects with other paths, allowing for a multi-stage route and offering the public an opportunity to appreciate and enjoy this natural heritage. The project has multiple objectives: to strengthen ecological connectivity between forest fragments, promote environmental education, foster ecotourism, and serve as infrastructure for preventing forest fires. Along the trail, several rest areas, logistics points, environmental classrooms, viewpoints, and hundreds of bridges are planned, including two special structures: a suspension bridge and a cable-stayed footbridge.
The supervision of the preparation of the Environmental Impact Study, the Detailed Technical Designs and the Feasibility of the Fire Protection System and the Special Structures of the Butterfly Trail Project was carried out.
