The Regiotram del Sur is a railway project in the pre-feasibility stage that aims to connect downtown Bogotá with the municipality of Soacha via a mass transit system along the old southern railway corridor. This project seeks to consolidate a multimodal, sustainable, and inclusive transportation system by integrating the Regiotram del Sur with other rail lines and systems such as TransMilenio and the Bogotá Metro.

Coverage: It will benefit more than 3.5 million inhabitants

Route alternatives studied: 7 alternatives across 3 corridors

Selected Alternative: Alternative No. 7:

  • Estimated length: 23.12 km, 
  • Proposed technology: Heavy, underground metro, compatible with a future Third Line of the Bogotá Metro.
  • Starting point of the route: Central Station (approximately at the intersection of Calle 26 with Av. Caracas).
  • End of route: Municipality of Soacha.
  • Stations: 18 in total, 14 in the city of Bogotá and 4 in the Municipality of Soacha
  • Design speed: 80 km/h; 
  • Double track, track gauge of 1,435 mm
  • Train capacity: 1,800 passengers
